How I Met Tiger

What convinced me to welcome Tiger?

In 2018, during a holiday trip to Florida, I was fascinated by the numerous stray cats wandering around the neighborhood. Their presence made me questioning what it would be like to have a cat of my own. Once we returned home, I was eager to visit animal rescue centers in our area to explore adoption options. On Saturday, August 26th, 2018, I finally experienced a local animal center with my own eyes. There, I met two cats: one that was available for adoption immediately but was less tolerant, and Tiger, a very social and playful cat who needed to stay at the center for medical reasons.

My excitement to adopt a cat nearly led me to make a hasty decision. However, with the help of my family, I took a step back and decided to wait for Tiger to be ready for adoption. This short wait was well worth it, as I was able to bring Tiger home on Wednesday, August 29th, 2018. Adopting him was a memorable and rewarding experience, and I’m grateful I made the thoughtful choice to wait for the right moment.

How did Tiger experience the transition?

After picking up Tiger from the rescue center and driving home, he began to moan and cry excessively during the trip, clearly distressed by the new experience. However, once we arrived home, he quickly started to settle, showing only mild nervousness as he explored his new surroundings. Over the next few days, Tiger gradually became more comfortable in his new home.

One thing Tiger didn’t appreciate though, was being kept indoors for two months. This was necessary to allow him pick up the scent of the house and ensure he wouldn’t get lost once he was finally allowed outside. When the time came, and he was freed from what must have felt like a cage, Tiger was thrilled and relieved. We were just as relieved, as we no longer were having to worry about him dashing out the door and disappearing forever.

Now, six years later, Tiger is thriving in his forever home, completed with a luxury scratching post, an assortment of toys, plenty of love and attention, and all the food and water he could ever need. He’s truly living the good life! Learn more about our present bond here
